(dpa) - The United States government is considering easing sanctions against communist North Korea, after positive steps were taken in recent negotiations between the two countries, the Washington Post daily reported Friday.

Citing diplomatic sources in the US and Asia, the US daily reported that a new agreement reached earlier this week requires North Korea to complete its decommissioning of its nuclear programme but eases pressure on the Stalinist country to reveal details of its nuclear cooperation with other nations such as Syria.

According to the report, the deal could also lead to the United States removing North Korea from a list of countries that sponsor terrorism.
