An official says a prosecutor is meeting face-to face for the first time with the man accused of imprisoning his own daughter in a cellar for 24 years and fathering seven children with her, reported CNN.

St. Poelten prosecution spokesman Gerhard Sedlacek says the meeting Wednesday between Christiane Burkheiser and the suspect, Josef Fritzl, began slightly before 0800 GMT.

He could not immediately provide more details, adding it was possible that the 73-year-old had started talking.

Authorities say Fritzl initially confessed to locking up and raping his daughter but has since remained silent.

He has not yet been charged and remains in pretrial detention.
