A Dutch company is offering a new back-to-basics electric sports car in the mould of the Lotus Super 7 two-seater, the dpa reported.

According to the makers near Limburg in the southern Netherlands, the Evisol ThoRR is designed for pure driving pleasure and runs almost silently apart from wind noise.

Motive power is provided by a powerful German-made Siemens electric induction motor which gives the car impressive performance and a range of 200 kilometres before its high-tech lithium-polymer batteries need to be recharged.

With 272 horsepower on tap the ThoRR is no slouch. Evisol gives no figures but talks of "mind blowing smooth acceleration, razor-sharp cornering and 'scaring' high speeds."

The car weighs just under a tonne, thanks to an ultralight chassis and the absence of any electric aids such as traction control, ABS braking or power steering. Prices and availability have not yet been announced.
