Spanish forward Marc Gasol, the brother of Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol, plans to play in the NBA next season and may follow in his brother's footsteps by disembarking in the Memphis Grizzlies.
"It is a matter of seeking new motivation in a new place," Marc Gasol explained, the dpa reported.
After being designated the Most Valuable Player of the Spanish league last season with Akasvayu Girona, Marc Gasol, 23, reportedly had enticing offers from Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid but preferred to leave.
The Memphis Grizzlies - where Pau Gasol played 2001-2008 - hold his NBA rights, ironically after obtaining them when Pau Gasol was traded to the Lakers in February. The Lakers had picked him in the 2007 Draft.
About to leave for North America, Marc Gasol accepts that he will most likely be compared to his brother.
"I am used to the comparisons. It is what I have already had in recent seasons here in the Spanish League. Pau has helped me think through the possibility of going to the NBA, although only I could make the final decision," he said.
