Magnitude 6.8 quake hits northern Japan

A magnitude-6.8 earthquake hit northern Japan Wednesday night, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, dpa reported.

But no tsunami warnings were issued, and no immediate reports of injuries or damage have been reported.

The agency said the quake's epicentre was located about 120 kilometres under the sea basin off the north-eastern coast of Iwate province.
