Two pedestrians are dead on Tuesday after they were hit by a snow removal dump truck while crossing the road in the eastern Canadian city of Montreal, local media reported.

It appeared that the driver of the truck did not see the couple, believed in their 70s, when they were trying to cross at a green light at about 9:40 a.m. local time (1440 GMT), Montreal Police spokesperson Anie Lemieux told reporters.

The man died at the scene, while the woman died after being transported to hospital, Xinhua reported.

The driver of the truck was treated at the scene for shock.

Investigation is underway.

It was the second such accident in the city in recent months. In mid-December, a 49-year-old woman was killed by a snowplow while crossing in the middle of the street in the city's Cote-des- Neiges neighborhood.
