Federal police arrested 51 people on Wednesday in two operations against international drug trafficking, Xinhua reported.
Police said the arrests took place in nine states: Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Parana, Pernambuco and Brazil's Federal District. The police also seized weapons and an undisclosed amount of drugs.
A total of 300 federal policemen participated in the operations, in which 70 prison warrants were issued.
The raids were aimed at demolishing a gang that supplied synthetic drugs such as LSD and ecstasy to wealthy clients in Rio. The drugs were also sold at parties held in several Brazilian states.
According to police, gang members bought cocaine in countries such as Paraguay and Bolivia and transported the drugs to the states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, all in Brazil's southeastern region.
The drugs were then taken to European countries such as France, Portugal and the Netherlands, where they were traded for LSD and ecstasy that were brought back to Brazil.
The police said the gang could gain 1 million reais (440,500 U.S. dollars) via drug trading per month.
The accused will be charged with criminal associations and international drug trafficking and if convicted, they could be sentenced to eight to 30 years in prison.
