Six mountain climbers were killed in an avalanche in the Austrian Alps at the weekend, police said Sunday, according to Xinhua.
Rescuers had retrieved the bodies of the six people who had been ascending the 3,540-meter Schalfkogel peak near the ski resort of Soelden close to the border of Italy, police said.
A seventh member of the group, a Cezch man, survived because he had stayed behind in an Alpine hut.
Witnesses spotted the avalanche on Saturday and immediately alerted alpine rescuers. But rescue units could not reach the scene until Sunday because of bad weather.
