At least 70 people have been killed in clashes between "fighters loyal to slain pro-Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud" and a pro-government group in northwestern Pakistan, reported PressTV.
The clashes erupted when scores of alleged pro-Taliban militants attacked the supporters of Malik Turkistan Betani in Shoza in the Soor Ghar area, South Waziristan, GEO, a local TV channel reported on Wednesday.
Militants used rockets and anti-aircraft guns against Betani's positions in a five-hour long battle that left at least 70 people killed, according to security officials.
Pakistan's army sent in helicopter gunships to pound about 300 pro-Taliban fighters attacking Betani's mountain stronghold.
However, the Associated Press quoted Betani as putting the death toll higher at about 90. Some 40 houses were reportedly destroyed in the attack.
