Mallorca moved up to fifth in the Spanish Liga on Sunday with a 1-0 win away to Osasuna, dpa reported.

The only goal in chilly Pamplona came in the 61st minute, when the in-form Gonzalo castro scored with a left-foot drive after being set up on the break by Pierre Webo.

Osasuna came close to an equalizer at the end, but the Mallorca defence held firm.

"This is an important win for us," said Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis. "They are a good team, and it was not easy for us today."

Mallorca are now one point ahead of Deportivo Coruna, who could only draw 1-1 in Almeria.

Kalu Uche gave Almeria the lead on the hour, Pablo Alvarez levelled for Deportivo 15 minutes from time.

In Sunday's other early games, Racing Santander beat bottom team Xerez 3-2, Getafe beat Tenerife 2-1 and Valladolid were held 1-1 by Malaga.

Xerez are bottom with just seven points from 15 games, two points behind Malaga. Then come Zaragoza on 12 and five teams on 13: Espanyol, Almeria, Santander, Atletico Madrid and Valladolid.

Later on Sunday, Atletico Madrid are at home to Villarreal. Fourth-placed Sevilla are away to Sporting Gijon in Sunday's late game.
