Turkish representative Hussein Dirioz was appointed new NATO Deputy Secretary General, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet said.
Dirioz is Turkish ambassador to Italy and former adviser to the Turkish president on foreign policy issues. He will assume his new duties in August.
Turkey is the only Muslim country that is a member of the Alliance since 1952.
