The Russian navy has set up rapid reaction groups to prevent eventual on-board fires, a spokesmen for the Russian Navy's Main Staff said on Sunday, RIA Novosti reported.
"Rapid reaction groups have been set up in accordance with the [Defense] minister's decree under the Defense Ministry's package of measures... aimed preventing and halting flame propagation," the spokesman said.
Navy's staffs receive information about the situation with the wildfires in Russia every four hours, he said.
"All the firefighting vehicles which are at disposal of the [Russian] naval units are in higher state of readiness," the spokesman said.
Wildfires raging in central Russia due to abnormally hot weather have claimed 30 lives, left 2,210 people homeless and caused damages worth over 4.6 billion rubles ($150 million), the Ministry for Regional Development said on Sunday.
