Police in far-north Australia were searching Saturday for a German tourist who went missing while walking in the Northern Territory's popular Kakadu National Park, DPA reported.

"We are still out there looking," Jabiru Police Station duty officer Travis Edmondson said, adding that the 63-year-old man been missing since Friday.

His wife raised the alarm after her husband failed to return from a planned 12-kilometre bushwalk that should have taken about six hours.

It is believed he did not take water with him and there are fears he might have succumbed to exhaustion in the 38-degree heat.

The man set off Friday morning on the Barrk Sandstone Walk around Nourlangie Rock.

A ground and air search failed to locate him before nightfall. The search began again at first light Saturday.
