The ninth round of the Spanish league programme finished Monday with a 2-1 late comeback win for Mallorca at home to lowly Levante, dpa reported.

Uruguayan striker Christian Stuani gave Levante the lead in the 27th minute against the run of play, heading in a perfect centre from veteran Valdo.

From then on Mallorca laid siege to the Levante goal, and the equalizer seemed to be just a question of time. It came in the 65th minute, when French midfielder Michael Pereira made it 1-1 after being set up by Emilio Nsue.

The winning goal was headed in just five minutes from the end by Mallorca's Cameroon World Cup striker Pierre Webo, on a centre from the promising Pereira.

The late win takes Mallorca - who finished fifth last season - up to seventh. Levante, in contrast, are now fourth from bottom and facing another relegation battle.

They have gained promotion to the top flight three times in the last six years, but on the two previous occasions were relegated straight away back to the second division. On Monday's feeble showing, they will have their work cut out to avoid a third instant relegation.
