Belarus's presidential election was the country's internal affair, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Tuesday, stressing that China respects the Belarusian people's choice, Xinhua reported.
"China hopes Belarus achieves political stability and economic development," Jiang told a regular press conference in reply to a question concerning the Belarusian presidential election.
Jiang added that China looks forward to strengthening its comprehensive and friendly relationship with Belarus.
Belarus's presidential election on Sunday was the fourth since the country declared independence in 1991.
On Monday, Belarus's Central Election Commission (CEC) said incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko was reelected for a four-year term.
