Uruguay shames Penarol's Libertadores Cup loss

Uruguayan media on Friday blasted at Penarol's loss to Argentina's Independiente in the first stage of the Group 8 at the Libertadores Cup, Xinhua reported.

The daily Ultimas Noticas headlined "Penarol was a ghost," referring to its performance on Thursday.

Penarol had been absent from the event for seven year and its "return was a deception" as Independiente "ended up hitting it strongly," Ultimas Noticas said.

"After not having difficulties during the first half Independiente had extra time and scored," it added.

The daily La Republica said that Penarol "was humiliated, whipped and vexed" by Independiente.

Penarol was "whipped" by Independiente who played with "substitute players," la Republica said.

El Pais daily headlined "Red of shame" and it added that Penarol "wasted an unsurpassable opportunity to add the visitor point, which could have given the ticket to the second round."

El Observador said that Penarol "played bad" and its followers "suffered each moment of the final 45 minutes."

Independiente "was superior" and the Uruguayan players "mainly at the last half were surpassed," by the other time, La Diaria said.
