Troops captured a local Taliban leader and eliminated another in Kandahar province, some 450 km south of capital city Kabul on Wednesday, a press release issued by NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) here on Thursday said.

Troops captured a local Taliban leader and eliminated another in Kandahar province, some 450 km south of capital city Kabul on Wednesday, a press release issued by NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) here on Thursday said, Xinhua reported.

"Afghan and NATO-led forces during operations captured a Taliban local leader and killed another insurgent in Kandahar province yesterday," the press release said.

Without revealing the name of the captured insurgent leader, the press release added, "The leader was responsible for the distribution of vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to Taliban fighters throughout the provincial capital Kandahar city."

Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops have not made comments yet.

Kandahar, the birthplace of Taliban, has been experiencing violent incidents over the past couples of years.
