Afghan troops backed by NATO-led forces during search operation captured four suspected Taliban insurgents in the country's Zabul province, some 340 km south of capital city of Kabul, a spokesman for provincial administration said Wednesday.
"The joint operation was conducted in Shah Joy District late Tuesday and as a result four insurgents including a Taliban local leader captured by forces," Mohammad Jan Rasoulyar told Xinhua.
There were no casualties on joint forces, he contended.
Meanwhile, NATO-led forces in a press release issued here confirmed the operation.
"A combined Afghan and coalition force detained several suspected insurgents during a raid to capture a Taliban leader in Shah Joy district, Zabul province, yesterday. The leader is a Taliban Improvised Explosive Device (IED) facilitator responsible for the movement, distribution and emplacement of explosive devices in the district," the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in the press release.
Taliban militants fighting Afghan and international forces have yet to make comments.
Despite the presence of over 140,000 NATO-led forces, the Taliban-led insurgency has been on rise over the past couples of years especially in south and eastern part of the militancy-hit country.
