An suicide attacker detonated his suicide vest in an Afghan army base on Saturday, officials said, dpa reported

There was no initial report of causalities yet. A military spokesman said the forward operating base in the eastern province of Laghman was under construction.

"A suicide bomber wearing an Afghan military uniform has attacked army base on Saturday morning," Dawlat Waziri, deputy spokesman for the Defense Ministry, said.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid took responsibility for the attack, speaking by telephone from an undisclosed location.

Mujahid said the suicide attacker had infiltrated the military a month ago and was one of the construction workers at the base.

A NATO spokesman confirmed the attack and said some international troops were present.
