A magnitude-6.1 earthquake struck eastern Japan Wednesday, shaking buildings in the Tokyo metropolitan areas, the Meteorological Agency said.

The quake occurred at 9:05 pm (12:05 GMT) with an epicentre off the coast of the Chiba prefecture at a depth of 10 kilometres, the agency said, adding that no tsunami warning was issued, DPA reported.

No immediate injuries or damage was reported in the earthquake, the second in just over three hours.

Tokyo Electric Power Co said no new problems were found at the damaged Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, public broadcaster NHK reported.
