Up to 16 Taliban insurgents have been killed and 16 detained in operations in different provinces within the past 24 hours, Xinhua reported quoted the Afghan Interior Ministry as said Sunday morning.
"Afghan police, army and NATO-led coalition forces carried out five cleanup operations in Kabul, Kunar, Kunduz, Kandahar and Helmand provinces, killing 16 armed Taliban insurgents and capturing 16 other suspects over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.
They also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without saying if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.
However, the Taliban insurgent group, which announced the launching of an annual spring offensive from May 3 against security forces, has not to make comments yet.
