Russian Foreign Ministry discusses South Caucasian Policy

A meeting of the board of the Russian Foreign Ministry took place on Monday, the Ministry stated.

At the meeting chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, the board discussed various aspects of the implementation of Russian diplomacy in the South Caucasus for realization of the tasks defined by the decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin on May 7, 2012 'On measures for realization of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation' and the Foreign Policy Concept of the Russian Federation, approved on February 12.

"The South Caucasus is a region that is historically associated with the vital interests of Russia. Our most important priority as a Caucasian state is to ensure peace and stability, the strengthening of good neighborly relations, joint implementation of significant economic potential of the region for the benefit of people living here," the statement of the Foreign Ministry said.

The status and prospects of bilateral relations with each of the South Caucasian states and topical issues of regional security have been extensively reviewed from this perspective.
