At least 13 people were killed Monday by landslides caused by heavy rains from tropical storm Fernand when it landed and swept through the eastern Mexican state of Veracruz, state government reported.
The deaths were found in the town of Yecuatla, the Sierra de Misantla, in the municipality of Tuxpan, and in Atzalan community after the tropical storm made landfall near the port of Veracruz Sunday night, bringing along heavy rains, said Veracruz's Civil Protection office, Xinhua reported.
More than 100 homes were also damaged in the landslides.
The tropical storm weakened Monday morning to a tropical depression and would continue to weaken in the coming hours, said local weather forecast service.
