Philippine President Benigno Aquino visits eastern provinces badly hit by one of the world's strongest typhoons, killing thousands and wiping out towns, dpa reported.
Aquino distributes relief goods in Tacloban City of Leyte province, the area hardest hit by Typhoon Haiyan. He is scheduled to visit Roxas City in Capiz province.
"We want to assure everyone that the government has the capacity to attend to your needs now and after," he told a meeting with the national disaster relief agency before his trip.
He says the government's priorities are to restore power and communication services, and clear roads closed by fallen trees, vehicles and debris swept by powerful sea surges.
