Russia will suspend the visa-free regime with Turkey from Jan. 1, 2016, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Nov. 27, according to RIA Novosti.
"Russia's leadership decided to suspend a visa-free regime between Russia and Turkey," Lavrov said. "This decision will enter into force on January 1, 2016."
The minister added that this is not a far-fetched threat.
"On the contrary, these threats are real," he said.
Turkey-Russia relations deteriorated after the incident with the Russian Su-24 warplane, shot down by the Turkish Air Force Nov. 24.
