(RIA Novosti) - Joint Russian-U.S. efforts to resolve a long-running conflict around Iran's nuclear program demonstrate Moscow and Washington's ability to find a compromise, President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.

"We are strengthening cooperation on the international scene. Our positions do not always coincide but... most importantly, we understand each other and find compromises," Putin told former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger at a meeting outside Moscow, reports Trend.

Kissinger said he rated highly Russia's role in efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear crisis.

Putin also said substantial progress was being made in Russia-U.S. relations.

"The background is changing but the substantive contents of our relations are certainly improving," he said.
