About 150 detainees escaped from the prison in the Turkish Van Province, when one of walls of the prison building was destroyed due to the recent earthquake, the Sabah newspaper reported.
Later, 50 jail-breakers reportedly returned to the prison. The exact number of the escaped detainees is being specified now. Work is underway to strengthen the security measures.
An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale jolted Van city in Turkey at 15:41. Tremors were felt in Diyarbekir, Batman, Sirnak, Mus, Erzurum, Bingol, Bitlis, Siirt, Mardin towns. There are damages and human casualties. According to the Turkish media outlets, death toll can reach 1,000 people.
