Turkey has welcomed the sanctioning of three senior members of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) it says are involved in narcotics trafficking Today`s Zaman reported

The United States sanctioned on Wednesday three persons it says are high-ranking members of the terrorist PKK. The US Treasury Department sanctioned on Wednesday three men it said are high-ranking members of the PKK and designated them as narcotics traffickers, making it illegal for US businesses and citizens to do business with them.

In a statement, the department said the men are based in Moldova, adding that one of the men, Zeyneddin Gelerli, is a high-ranking member of the PKK.

The Treasury Department also says Gelerli is a member of a Romania-based drug trafficking ring. The US said the other two men were Cherkez Akbulut and Omer Boztepe.

A statement released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Thursday recalled previous similar US decisions in which leading PKK members Murat Karayılan, Ali Rıza Altun, Zubeyir Aydar, Cemil Bayık, Duran Kalkan, Remzi Kartal, Sabri Ok and Adem Uzun are declared as narcotics traffickers.

The statement said it welcomes US decision and urged other countries to end the activities of the PKK it said are involved in drug trafficking and other types of organized crime.
