The number of detainees as a result of a special operation by the Turkish police reached 47, Turkish Hurriyet newspaper reported on Dec.17.

Currently the number of detainees has reached 47. In addition, there was adopted a decision to detain another seven persons, according to the reports.

Among those detained were the sons of some ministers, who are the members of Turkey's ruling party - Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan's son, Salih Kaan Caglayan and Interior Minister Muammar Guler's son Baris Guler, as well as well-known businessman, head of Istanbul's Fatih municipality Mustafa Demir, CEO of Halkbank Suleyman Aslan and famous entrepreneur Ali Agaoglu.

Those arrested were accused of corruption, smuggling and selling drugs, according to the reports.

In his statement, Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu said that some businessmen had been invited to the police station and some of them were arrested on the basis of complaints received in connection with the smuggling and sale of drugs. After receiving their testimony several businessmen were released.
