Turkish hotels standing empty

The number of hotel reservations in Turkey has dropped by 13.4 percent in the first quarter of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015, said the message from the country's Touristic Hotels and Investors Association (TUROB).

A total of 57.6 percent of hotels were reserved in Turkey in the first quarter of 2015.

The majority of hotels are currently standing empty in Istanbul city, according to the message.

TUROB said that 47.5 percent of hotels were reserved in Istanbul in the first quarter of 2016, or 21.4 percent less than in the same period in 2015.

Turkish Statistical Institute has said that 29.6 million tourists visited Turkey in 2015.

The country's revenues from tourism totaled $31.5 billion in 2015, or 8.3 percent less than in 2014.
