Kazakh import of jewelry from Turkey falls during pandemic

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 29

The volume of jewelry export from Turkey to Kazakhstan dipped by 1.2 percent in the first five months of 2020 compared to the same period of last year, having made up $2.2 million, Turkish Trade Ministry told Trend on June 29.

In May of this year, Turkey’s export of jewelry to Kazakhstan slumped by 97.4 percent compared to the same month of 2019 and stood at $10,000.

Export of jewelry from Turkey to international markets dropped by 11.8 percent from January through May 2020, compared to the same period of 2019, having made over $1.2 billion. According to the ministry, this amount accounted for 2.1 percent of the country’s total export for the reporting period.

"In May 2020, Turkey exported jewelry worth $225.4 million to world markets, which is 37.4 percent less compared to the same month of 2019," the ministry said.

Turkey’s export of jewelry abroad in May this year amounted to 2.3 percent of the country’s total export.

During the last twelve months (from May 2019 through May 2020), Turkey exported jewelry worth more than $3.9 billion.
