The new airport in Istanbul served over 21.7 passengers from January through November 2020, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.
During this period, 7.01 million passengers were served on domestic flights, and 14.7 million passengers on international flights, said the ministry.
The ministry noted that 170,699 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul airport during the specified period, including 56,043 - on domestic lines, 114,656 - on international lines.
In 1M2020, the volume of cargo transportation at the new Istanbul airport amounted to 775,633 tons, of which 80,701 tons accounted for domestic flights, 694,932 - international flights, the ministry said.
In 2019, the new Istanbul airport served 52.5 million passengers.
On October 29, 2018, the opening ceremony of the new airport was held in Istanbul, in which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Jahit Turhan took part.
The third airport in Istanbul is located in the northern part of the city.
