President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met with Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Vangelis Meimarakis in Athens.
The Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament welcomed the head of state.
Vangelis Meimarakis expressed his satisfaction over a meeting with President of friendly Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the Hellenic Parliament.
He said relations between the Azerbaijani and Greek parliaments had developed.
Recalling a visit of members of Greece-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group to Azerbaijan last November, the Speaker said he would visit Azerbaijan in the near future.
Vangelis Meimarakis noted that this visit would contribute to the deepening of the interparliamentary ties.
The Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament stressed the importance of the Azerbaijani President`s state visit to Greece in terms of the development of relations between the countries in a number of fields.
President Ilham Aliyev said the interparliamentary relations were very important to the countries, noting that these ties held an important place in the development of the cooperation.
Stressing the development of Azerbaijan-Greece interparliamentary ties, the head of state described the activities of the friendship groups in the legislative bodies as an indicator of this.
The head of state said the bilateral cooperation between the two countries was very successful.
Noting that it is his second visit to Greece in last five years, President Ilham Aliyev described it as an important evidence of the development of relationship between the countries.
President Ilham Aliyev said that during the visit he had had fruitful meetings with the Greek President and Prime Minister.
The head of state said the friendly ties between Azerbaijan and Greece had been developing very successfully and noted that there were big opportunities for the further expansion of the cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, Vangelis Meimarakis presented the gold medal of the Hellenic Parliament to President Ilham Aliyev.
