Iran is to commence the oil layer of South Pars gas field by forth quarter of next year.

It is expected that the fist phase of producing crude oil from South Pars will produce 20,000 to 35,000 barrels, Alireza Zeighami the A chief executive officer of developing the oil layers project in South Pars told Shnana Apr.25.

According to him, a processing platform would to be carried the South Pars field to complete the drillings and preparation for producing oil.

The platform, which weighs 890 metric tons, will be able to process 35 thousand barrels of crude oil per day and is considered one of the great parts of the South Pars oil layer development project, Fars news agency reported Apr.17.

The platform will cover the product of seven oil wells dug at the field.

The structure is 30 meters long, 20 meters wide, and is built in three stories.

It is being carried on SADAF 3000, a seagoing floating sheerlegs crane/pull barge.

The South Pars is shared by Iran and Qatar. While Iran has been unable to take anything out of the oil layer, Qatar has been tapping it since the 1990s and is currently producing 450 thousand barrels of crude out of it every day. The country is estimated to have extracted over 1 billion barrels of oil from South Pars so far.

Earlier, Moshaqali Gohari, Deputy Director of the Economic and Financial Feasibility Study of the Integrated Management Plans Center, had said that the company had made plans on developing the oil layer of the South Pars, aiming to produce 35 thousand barrels of oil a day.
