"Following a noble tradition, Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree pardoning some 859 Turkmen citizens in honor of the national holiday - the State Flag day," a message from Turkmen government said on Feb.14. Turkmenistan's State Flag Day is celebrated on Feb.19.

The pardoned are exempt from further serving the main and additional sentence but must accept living in a certain place.

The president ordered the heads of the relevant law enforcement agencies to take all necessary measures to ensure that pardoned citizens were released from prison before the holiday and returned to their families..

"These people have been given a chance to return to a dignified life and to atone for their guilt with honest work by actively contributing to the country's development," the president said.

Local administrations, as well as the relevant heads have been ordered to take necessary measures on employment of the pardoned.
