In accordance with the law on electric power industry entered into force in Turkmenistan the objects of the energy system of the country are state property.

The law published Aug. 26 in the Turkmen media, establishes the legal, economic and organizational bases of the electric power industry and is aimed at building of capacities of electric power system of the country on the basis of the further modernization of the industry, the use of innovative energy-saving technologies and equipment.

The power industry is one of the leading sectors of Turkmen economy. Currently, works on increase of electricity exports to Iran and Turkey are being implemented in the country. The possibilities of exporting of electricity to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and countries in the Caucasus are being studied.

Turkmenistan plans to produce up to 27.4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity by 2020, and by 2030 it intends to increase the volume of electricity production up to 35.5 billion kilowatt hours.
