If Russia creates obstacles for the Busheh Nuclear Plant to open, "this will affect Moscow the most," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.
"Russia has previously said that it has eliminated the technical problems and the plant will be commissioned in the near future. If a long delay disappoints the Iranian people, this will be bad for Russia," he said at a press conference. He also noted Russia's recent statement that the plant would open late summer, although Moscow earlier promised to open the plant's doors in spring.
Iran intends to build new nuclear stations in the country and "those who keep their promises will have an advantage in constructing these stations," the spokesman added.
"The Iranian people have not come to the conclusion that Russia is creating obstacles in the commissioning of the plant. Delays have occurred, but for technical reasons," he said.
The Iranian-Russian contract to build the Bushehr Nuclear Station was signed in 1995 in Tehran. The contract's total value is $1 billion. The construction was supposed to finish by Jan. 8, 1999, but after 11 years the station is still not open. The Russian AtomStroyExport company is building the plant.
