"Being deeply peaceful for its essence, our Military Doctrine is of especially defensive character," President of Turkmenistan Gurbanqulu Berdimuhamedov said in his appeal on Aug. 11.

The appeal made on the occasion of 17-year anniversary of frontier forces and the Day of Frontier Guard for the first time celebrated in Turkmenistan.

"The main task of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan is to defend stability of our state border, integrity of its borders, the constitutional composition of the Turkmen government, creative job, and prosperity of the Turkmen people," statement said.

Turkmenistan borders on land with Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as over the Caspian Sea with Russia and Azerbaijan. Recently Ashgabat has adopted the Military Doctrine, based on positive neutrality. Berdimuhamedov is also the supreme commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan.

Berdimuhamedov said the leadership of the country attaches "great attention to providing the Frontier Forces with perfect, super advanced techniques and necessary facilities, and strengthening their technical basis". At the same time the construction of the new frontier security detachments on the borders of Turkmenistan is underway.

Ensuring the inviolability of the state border, the Turkmen frontier guards struggle with contraband, terrorism and drug trafficking. "The large-scale national program, intended to provide peace and security of independent Turkmenistan, require from the officers of the Frontier Forces invariably high level preparation," said in conversion.
