UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon will visit Turkmenistan April 1-2. This is "a milestone in the long history of our traditional cooperation," a Turkmen state press service reported.
"This is another clear demonstration of the Central Asian region's ever-increasing role, where our country occupies a key position," the press service said. "Another is the international community's interest in an independent neutral Turkmenistan."
During his visit, Ki-Moon will meet Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov and visit the U.N. Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia in Ashgabat.
Ashgabat put forward a number of international initiatives in energy security, disarmament and regional development sectors within the U.N.
