Azerbaijanis living in Georgia worry about possible closing of Azerbaijani schools operating in Georgia temporary, Georgia's Azerbaijanis movement Geyrat head Alibala Askerov told Trend over phone from Tbilisi today.
He said only Georgian schools can operate in Georgia in accordance with Georgia's legislation. All the rest schools where lessons are not held in Georgian operate temporary.
If the Georgian government begins to realize this law, Azerbaijani schools can be fully closed, Askerov said.
According to unofficial information, approximately 500,000 Azerbaijanis live in Georgia, mainly, in Kvemo-Kartli (Borchali). At present, there are 120 Azerbaijani schools in Georgia.
Geyrat movement head also expressed anxiety that principals of eight Azerbaijani schools are Georgians. He also stressed the problem with text books. "Books cost 14-15 lari ($8-9). Azerbaijanis face difficulties with purchase of books," Askerov said.
