Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have called for the expansion of ties with Benin as he visits the West African country on the first leg of his tour of Africa.

In a meeting with his Beninese counterpart Yani Boni, Ahmadinejad said there are abundant opportunities for the two nations to boost their cooperation, the IRNA News Agency reported.

Benin's president, for his turn, described relations between Iran and his country as amicable and satisfactory.

Niger and Ghana are the next destinations for Ahmadinejad and his entourage.

Several high-ranking officials including agriculture, energy and foreign ministers are accompanying the Iranian president on his tour.
