Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani has appointed a reformist politician as the caretaker for the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.

Mohammad Ali Najafi, a former Education Minister was appointed by Rouhani as acting Science Minister, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported Aug. 20.

Najafi, who failed to win the parliament's vote of confidence for the education ministry in Rouhani's administration, was appointed as vice-president and head of the Iran's Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO) in August 2013. In January this year, he resigned from the post and was appointed as the president's adviser and secretary of the Economic Coordination Committee.

Najafi served as education minister under former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and former Prime Minister Mirhossein Mousavi from 1988 to 1997.

Iranian Parliament on Aug. 20 dismissed reformist Minister of Science, Research and Technology Reza Faraji Dana.

Rouhani appointed Reza Faraji Dana as his advisor for scientific and educational affairs.
