Lebanon receives "messages of support" from Iran, Syria

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman received Tuesday Syria's ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali and head of the Iranian Strategic Council for Foreign Relations Kamal Kharrazi in two separate meetings, during which they conveyed "messages of support" to Lebanon, Xinhua reported.

Suleiman discussed with Abdul Karim Ali at the presidential palace near Beirut "issues of mutual concern and ongoing cooperation between the two countries at all levels and in all fields," the President's office said in a statement.

During the meeting, the Syrian diplomat conveyed to Suleiman " Syria's support for the presidency and constitutional institutions " in Lebanon, and "a message of support for Lebanon against Israeli threats," the statement said.

Also on Tuesday, Suleiman received Kharrazi who conveyed "his country's regards to Suleiman and praised his role in maintaining stability on the political, economic and security levels in Lebanon," a presidential statement said.

During the meeting, Suleiman voiced satisfaction with the development of relations with Iran, saying that he "wishes progress and prosperity for Iran," while Kharrazi vowed that "Iran will always support Lebanon."
