The voting in the snap presidential election in Kazakhstan ended Apr. 26.
The voting lasted from 07:00 to 20:00 (UTC/GMT +5 hours or UTC/GMT +6 hours depending on Kazakhstan's region).

Due to the time difference, the polling stations in the four western regions - West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Aktobe and Mangystau - closed the last.

In the rest of Kazakhstan the voting ended an hour earlier.

Some 86 percent voters had cast their votes in the election by 18:00, when the last announcement was made by the country's central election commission on the turnout results.

The preliminary data on the voter turnout throughout the voting day will be announced at 22:00 Astana time (UTC/GMT +6 hours).

Three candidates were running for the president in Kazakhstan: Nursultan Nazarbayev, who has been the country's president since 1989, Turgun Syzdykov, the secretary of the central committee of the Communist People's Party, and Abelgazi Kusainov, the chairman of the Trade Unions Federation.
