The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on October 9.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission, which took place on Friday.
"According to the Electoral Code, the powers of the Azerbaijani President expire on the third day of the third week of October," CEC chairman Mazahir Panakhov said at a meeting. "So, this day falls on October 16."
As Qurban holiday will be celebrated in Azerbaijan on October 16 and this day is declared as a day-off, Panakhov proposed to hold the presidential elections on October 9.
The proposal was accepted by the CEC members and approved at the meeting.
The previous presidential elections were held in Azerbaijan on October 15, 2008.
The presidential elections are held in Azerbaijan every five years.
