The village of Khinalig is located in a remote area in Azerbaijan's Guba district on the northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Range.
This hard-to-reach village is famous for its ancient houses, unique language, which is a northeast Caucasian language, as well as for its unique culture and traditions. The village is a must-see for the tourists and travellers coming to Azerbaijan.
Khinalig is also sometimes called an "island among mountains", because the village is surrounded by the mountains of Gizil Gaya, Shahdagh, Tufandag and Khinalig, at an altitude of 2100-2200 meters above sea level.
The guests of Baku, who will arrive for the First European Games on June 12-28, will have the opportunity to visit Khinalig, located 210 km from the capital of Azerbaijan.
Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
