A cable plant of Azerbaijan’s Sumgayit Technological Park (STP) has exported a small volume of its products abroad since the beginning of this year, STP PR Manager Rashad Aliyev told Trend.
“The products were exported at the very beginning of this year,” Aliyev added.
"The big volumes of cable products were previously planned to be exported to the Central Asian countries, in particular, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan,” PR manager added. “A small volume was exported due to the current situation with the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. The high-voltage cables envisaged for using in the oil industry and mining sector were also exported."
Aliyev stressed that the Sumgayit Technological Park exported cable products worth more than $6.3 million to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan in 2019.
"The cable plant intends to expand the supply of products to Central Asia and is likely to deal with this issue in the second half of this year,” Aliyev added. “The plant previously planned to supply a big volume of large-capacity power cables to the Central Asian countries.”
The plant previously produced cables with a voltage of 10, 35, 110, 220 kV.
For the first time in the history of Azerbaijan’s industry, the plant has begun to produce cables with a voltage of 500 kV since 2016. The plant has been provided with modern German-made equipment.
Being a unique project in the region, STP fully meets the demand in the domestic market and is able to export a sufficient volume of products to the foreign market. Currently, STP residents are 12 plants and more than 30 production sites provided with the modern European and Japanese technological equipment, employing 2,000 people.
STP is part of Azerbaijani Azenco company, which is engaged in the construction of facilities in the energy sector. The area of the park is 250 hectares. The creation of the Sumgayit Technologies Park is aimed at implementing large infrastructure projects in the industrial sector of Azerbaijan.
STP's residents include 12 plants and 30 production sites.
