BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12
The Embassy of Mexico in Azerbaijan, in collaboration with the Morelia International Film Festival, organized the online discussion and presentation of the short film “Polar Bear”.
The event, carried out on a digital platform, was attended by the Ambassador of Mexico in Azerbaijan, Rodrigo Labardini, the Mexican director and producer, Pablo Baksht Segovia, and the director of the film, Marcelo Tobar. Also representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Azerbaijan, members of the Mexican community, as well as professors and student of the Azerbaijani University of Languages participated in the event.
The guests discussed the challenges that the film industry will face after the pandemic, the filming of the movie “Polar Bear” totally carried out on IPhone, as well as the interest of organizers of the Morelia International Festival to visit Azerbaijan and create links with Azerbaijani institutions and producers in order to develop joint projects within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the United Mexican States and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Fields of Education, Science, Youth, Culture and Sport.
Pablo Baksht was Director of Short Film Production at the Mexican Institute of Cinematography. The short films he produced in 5 years received more than 100 awards and recognitions, including 7 short films invited to compete in the Official Section of the Cannes International Film Festival, and an Oscar nomination and Palme d'Or nomination at the Festival de Cannes.
Director Marcelo Tobar is the winner of the 15th edition of the Morelia Festival with the short film “Polar Bear”. He has also directed, produced and written three more films, of which "Asteroide" received several national and international awards.
