Explosion on Baku- Tbilisi – Ceyhan Pipeline Investigated

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 August / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The explosion broke out on the Baku- Tbilisi -Ceyhan oil pipeline, which runs via the Turkish Arcizan city, the Botash company informed Trend .

According to the information released by Turkish media, the explosion took place on the Arcizan- Refahiye road near the Yurtbashi settlement at midnight. The reason for explosion has not been revealed yet.

The height of flame reached 50m. The security forces came to the scene of the accident. All measures are taken to extinguish fire and to prevent it spreading to nearby wood ( 10,000 hectares). .

The gas supply to Ankara was suspended due to the fire broke out on the 15 metres near the pipeline.

The fire is expected to be extinguished after crude oil to be burned on the sixth kilometers of the pipeline. No casualties were reported.

Ahmad Akta, the Director of the Botash, told Trend that the company took measures to remove the results of explosion. The reason and results of the explosion will be announced after the investigation.

Ilhan Deneri, the Chief of the news- service of the Baku- Tbilisi- Ceyhan pipeline, confirmed the information. Howevr, Deneri did not detail the reason for the explosion and said the results would be announced after the investigation.
