Two arrested for trafficking drugs in postal packages in Azerbaijan

The masterminds of the international drug-trafficking channel who tried to smuggle drugs in postal packages were arrested in Azerbaijan, says a statement on the website of the country's State Customs Committee.
According to the report, as a result of measures taken from July 17 to September 17 by State Customs Committee and Baku Head Customs Administration 24 specially prepared postal packages containing drugs and intended for shipment to Canada, Sweden and Greece have been identified.
An Iranian Ezzataddin Mostafavi and an Azerbaijani Elchin Jafarov were arrested on charges of organizing this drug-trafficking channel.
Customs officers seized from postal packages and apartments of the arrested 27 kg 981 grams of opium and 10 kg 157 grams of heroin in total and a Makarov handgun.
Criminal suit filed against Mostafavi and Jafarov under articles "Contraband" and "Illegal manufacture, production, acquisition, storage, transport, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or precursors" of Azerbaijani penal code.
